Lazy Days Skirt Sew and Tell

The Lazy Days Skirt is a complete misnomer.  This piece is so quick and simple to make that rather than wanting to spend the rest of your day relaxing, you'll want to churn out a basket full of skirts in all sorts of colors, fabrics, and lengths.  Casual backyard birthday party for your daughter's ballet buddy?  Just whip up a pink mid-calf skirt with a satin ribbon hem.  Need to find a project for that popsicle and ice cream sandwich print that your neighbor dumped on you?  Sew up a knee length number and celebrate the beginning of summer!  Got a lot of odd-colored scraps piling up?  Practice your patchwork and make a tea-length skirt for your little girl to wear at her school's "Crazy Dress-Up Day."

The skirt that I made for Darcy, not including the prewashing, took less than half an hour to make.  Had I used a ribbon instead of making my own bias tape, it probably would have taken less than 20 minutes to make.  As I mentioned in the Day 5 post, when I make this skirt again I'll have to mark up the seam allowances before sewing the selvedges together.  And the woven elastic works well so far, but we'll see what happens when she becomes more active.

I had Darcy try the skirt on and she looked so cute!  The skirt ended up stopping at mid-calf, so a little longer than I expected, but it's still a little big for her, so she'll be able to wear it for a few months before she outgrows it.

This pattern is perfect for a beginner, and can even be easy enough for the young sewer in your house to make (just make sure you do the cutting)!  It's also a great base pattern for more experienced sewers.  You can embellish it with appliqué, try different types of fabrics, and play around with the hem.  It's easy to get creative with this pattern and make it your own!
